ANAKONDA 2006 is the first exercise of its kind for many years in which all the Armed Forces, Military Police and components of non-military services such as the Police, Border Guard and Fire Service are to take part.

This is the effect of activities carried out since the end of 2005. Workshops, planning conferences and also tactical training have taken place as part of the preparations.

The aim of the exercise is to improve the preparation of the chain of command at all levels in the process of directing combat components of the Polish Armed Forces. Furthermore, the exercise will contribute to the gaining of practical experience in preparing and carrying out activities in joint defensive operations in Poland and also preparing the command for directing large-scale operations.

The exercise is taking place on 20-29 September on training grounds in Drawsko Pomorskie and Ustka, and also in marine training areas in the protective zone of the Polish Navy. In total, about 10,000 soldiers, 190 tanks and artillery pieces, 33 aircraft, 21 helicopters, 20 ships and 1380 other pieces of equipment are taking part.

The total cost of the exercise is PLN 50 million. The funds have been planned for and shared among the budgets of the Armed Forces, Military Police, Police, Border Guard and Fire Service.

During the meeting, the exercise command’s video conferencing communication system was presented to those gathered. The Commander of Operational Command Lieut. Gen. Henryk Tacik also presented the tasks of Operational Command and its role in the structure of the Armed Forces.
