Minister Komorowski´s press conference

On 30th May, undersecretary in MoND Stanisław Komorowski chaired a press conference devoted to the Polish presence in missions in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chad, and Air Policing in Lithuania.

In the conference also participated operational commander BrigGen Bronisław Kwiatkowski and PMC 2 Afghanistan CinC BrigGen Jerzy Biziewski. Minister Komorowski informed about the current state of works on Strategy of Polish Armed Forces' Participation in International Operations. A panel of specialists analyzes Poland's capabilities of participation in EU, UN and NATO-led international operations.
While describing Poland's engagement in international missions, minister Komorowski drew special attention to the commencing mission in the Republic of Chad. The mission is significant, the minister stressed, as its goal is to protect those who provide humanitarian aid and its beneficiaries. Furthermore, it is the first mission in which the Polish contingent has to build up the base "from scratch". The pace of building up the camp by engineering troops has been described by the minister as impressive.
He also emphasized the significance of cooperation with the locals, and informed on meetings with representatives of the Chad's authorities that assured him that Polish presence in that country is "expected and desired".
Minister referred as well to the growing importance of a civilian component in international missions, and informed that the interministerial works have been launched, among others, on Afghanistan reconstruction by coordinated civilian and military components.
