NATO seminar in Torun on WMD proliferation

On 16th June, at the Artillery Training Centre in Torun, a conference “Transformation of defence against proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction” opened the seminar of Defence Group on Proliferation.
The group’s meeting is an outcome of works conducted under Polish-American co-chairmanship taken on 13th July 07.
In the seminar participate: v-ce minister in MoND Stanisław Komorowski, US Assistant Secretary of Defense Joseph Benkert, Polish Ambassador to the UN in Vienna Jacek Bylica and highest ranked military and political NATO representatives.
The agenda of the seminar includes review of works on defence against WMD, the analysis of military capabilities in the sphere of WMD combating, and broadly understood training against this threat. The experts will also assess hitherto cooperation in the spheres of protection against WMD and medical support between NATO member-states, Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC), Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI), Mediterranean Dialogue (MD) and other multinational organizations (with a special focus on the EU).
The concepts worked out during the seminar are going to constitute important elements of a project – Comprehensive NATO Policy for preventing WMD Proliferation and CBRN Defence to be presented during a jubilee NATO summit next year.
