Goal – professionalization

V-ce minister in MoND Czesław Piątas met on 12th June in Poznan with commanders of military units from Wielkopolska province to talk about professionalization of the armed forces.

In the meeting took part as well commanders of military units from Wielkopolska region and representatives of Military Infrastructure Board and Military Housing Agency.
Minister Piątas familiarized the present with a current stage of works on the difficult and multifaceted endeavour that a change from a conscript based to career army is. Minister listed major areas of military functioning that require a reform and amendments to legal acts regulating the issue of military service. Among major ones Piątas mentioned lodging, military reconversion, and death benefits and disability payments granted to soldiers or their families.
Much attention during the meeting was devoted to the recruitment system of volunteers to the military. “We need to form a cohesive system of the exchange of information between crosscountry military and administration units”, said minister. Recruitment points’ activities should centre on the military units’ personnel needs, he added.
During the discussion it was emphasized that professionalism of the armed forces needs to be visible at all the levels of its functioning, and values the army professes should encourage young people to take up military service.

Professionalization of the military is expected to cost 1.5 billion zlotys. Now 12-20% of conscripts declare that they would like to join professional army. Besides, there are 50 schools that run military profile classes with extended “defence training” programme. These are the candidates that the army wants to attract, offering them chance on career development, training, and social benefits.
